Have you ever been in a meeting and everyone agrees? Of course - you're all on the same page! It's great that the decision is made quickly and you're on to the next item on the agenda. However, was there any real discussion or debate around ideas? Probably not, at least if you and your colleagues agreed in little to no time.
Perhaps you're all just too alike? Not necessarily in terms of your demographic make up (i.e. gender or ethnicity) but, instead, your skills, work experience, degree, hobbies and consumer preferences - they may just end up being all the same. Diversity is not necessarily just about gender or ethnicity, it's also about our diversity of thought.
Next time you're ready to recruit, think about what you actually need your team to do (the hard skills) and consider how you could bring a new perspective to the team and wider organisation.
Have you ever had that feeling of ease when you are in a crowd of people and fully fit in? They have a similar background and lifestyle as you, they speak the same language and share similar hobbies. It’s the same feeling you get when you buy a piece of clothing that is so comfortable that it feels like an extended part of your body.
