A few months ago I had the privilege of attending the TradeMe Jobs Breakfast with Shamubeel Eaqub (an experienced economist, financial analyst and much more). Despite having many distractions that came in the form of fried eggs and hash browns, I did manage to focus my attention on the wise words that Shamubeel had to share with us.
One of the things that struck me during his talk was the idea that candidates, when they are looking for their next opportunity in today's market, they're looking for more than a generous salary. In fact, it has been found that many of the benefits candidates look for actually cost businesses less!
It's very important to understand what candidates look for in order to place the best opportunities in front of them. It's also a great selling point for an employer's vacancies.
I encourage everyone to really think about what they value in a position because often you find it goes beyond the salary.
You don’t need to break the bank to offer attractive extras. A new survey conducted by my team at Fractl found that, after health insurance, employees place the highest value on benefits that are relatively low-cost to employers, such as flexible hours, more paid vacation time, and work-from-home options.
