We recently decided to make a switch to stand-up desks and, a week into this new way of working, I can honestly say that I’ve already started to feel the impact.
I was quite apprehensive about the idea at first, although researching deeper into this I’ve found that it has a lot of benefits, both physically and mentally. However I should say that regardless of how receptive you are to change or how active your lifestyle may be, if you’re not used to it then this style of working does take some getting used to. A few days in and my team and I had already resorted to Heel and Ankle Stabilisers.
I’m sure you’ve heard the warning that ‘sitting is a silent killer’ but do you really need to be on your feet the entire day to make a difference?
“Too much of anything can be detrimental. There is a consensus in my field that people should try a standing desk for two to four hours a day. Start with short increments and listen to your body,”
